WHAT IS WOOL FELT?

Wool felt is the oldest textile fabric and has been made from pure sheep's wool for centuries. While felt-making processes have been refined and mechanized over time, the basic manufacturing principle and raw materials remain the same. Through a combination of moisture, heat, and friction, the sheep's wool felts and hardens, resulting in a homogeneous, stable wool felt. Depending on the processing, the felt can be as soft as cotton wool or, through fulling, as hard as wood. In addition, there are numerous ways to refine the felt and tailor its specific properties to customer requirements.

VFG (Vereinigte Filzfabriken AG) produces high-quality wool felts for industrial and technical applications. Our milled and wet-felted wools are bonded exclusively through mechanical processing – completely naturally and without additional binders. The unique properties of wool felt meet the requirements of a wide range of applications: from mechanical engineering and apparatus construction to musical instrument making, equestrian equipment and gun cleaning, as well as medical applications and as design felt for decorative purposes.

Thanks to our many years of experience and our sustainable felt production, we can offer customized, certified solutions that are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Vereinigte Filzfabriken AG (VFG) is bound by a collective bargaining agreement in the textile industry. This means that we offer benefits in addition to the standard apprenticeship allowance, including vacation pay, annual bonuses, capital-forming benefits, and 30 vacation days per year.
