What is wool felt?
Wool felt is the oldest textile fabric and has been made from pure sheep's wool for centuries. Although the production process has been refined and mechanised over the centuries, the manufacturing principle and basic raw materials remain the same. Sheep's wool can be matted and strengthened by moisture, heat and friction. This creates a homogeneous textile fabric, the wool felt. Depending on how it is processed, it can be as soft as cotton wool or as hard as wood after fulling. In addition, there is a wide range of options for finishing the felt and thus adapting its specific properties to the customer's requirements.
VFG manufactures high-quality wool felts for industry. Our woollen felts are solidified as fulling felts or wet felts by mechanical processing alone - pure, of course, without additional binding agents. The diverse properties of wool felt fulfil the requirements of a large number of different applications and areas of use, from machine construction / musical instrument construction / equestrian use / weapon cleaning / medical use to decorative elements as design felts

Protect & cushion
Wool felt is ideal as scratch protection, transport protection, material protection for sensitive surfaces, e.g. furniture glides, packaging felt, saddle felt
It is also used in furniture production and in the medical sector, e.g. upholstery felt, protective padding during transport or in orthopaedics.

Damping and deadening
Wool felts dampen noise, reduce rattling noises and vibrations and absorb sound waves to improve acoustics.
Felt prevents rattling noises in noise-critical areas, e.g. in vehicles. Among other things, where painted surfaces are joined with plastic parts, movement noises are dampened by intermediate layers of felt.
Also used in pianos as dampers or in loudspeakers.

Absorb, store & transfer
The fine fibre structure and the properties of wool are the basis for optimum liquid handling: felt can absorb, store, transfer and even convey against gravity - water, oils, fuels, solvents, paints and other fluids.

Seal & pressure equalisation
Felt fulfils special sealing tasks. As a porous material, it remains permeable to liquids and gases and thus ensures pressure equalisation in the machine housing.
Felt is the right material when a seal needs to protect against dust and dirt and at the same time requires air permeability or more favourable friction behaviour.
