Polishing, cleaning and stripping: achieve brilliant results with felt

The dense fibre structure of a felt can absorb fine and extremely fine particles - from polishing grains to metal shavings. For this reason, the natural material is able to clean a variety of products as well as add the finishing touch to almost any surface.

Cleaning, polishing and wiping with felt

Cleaning with felt

From metal sheets to gun barrels - felts enable effortless cleaning in the shortest possible time and thus achieve maximum cleaning efficiency. After all, the woolly all-rounder is both dimensionally stable and elastic and can be cut out precisely using modern processes. This creates a brush-like surface of countless fibre ends on the die-cut, which has an optimum cleaning effect due to the precise die-cutting with the appropriate contact pressure. In addition, felts are extremely absorbent and can hold and remove all dirt particles in their fibre structure. The excellent absorbency also allows the absorption and storage of liquids such as oil or solvents.

Polishing with felt

High-quality felt wheels bring almost any material to a high gloss - be it aluminium, plastic or wood.

Rotating felt tools polish the surface of e.g. injection moulds to roughness depths of -1/1000 mm with the greatest geometric precision using suitable pastes. The felt is the carrier for the grain, which is applied to the felt surface in the form of solid or liquid polishing pastes or emulsions and held in the dense fibre structure. Blunt polishing grit is removed from time to time with a steel (for stationary discs) or with coarse sandpaper (for small polishing pins).

Wiping with felt

Roll cylinders for rolling steel and non-ferrous strips must always be free of foreign objects that would mark the strip.
The same applies to calender rollers in film production.
And this is where the robust all-rounder comes into play: the specific frictional behaviour of the felt and its dense fibre structure enable the construction of simple but effective scrapers.
Oils and foreign bodies are reliably absorbed by the felt.
